Watch - Couples Therapy

If you’re looking for something to watch, I've just finished binging a brilliant series on iPlayer called Couples Therapy. It’s a real-life, fly-on-the-wall documentary where you get to watch 4 couples go through couples therapy with therapist Dr Orna Guralnik.

I found it compelling viewing. Maybe because I’m a therapist and it was interesting to see how Orna worked with the couples? But probably because it was fascinating to witness the dynamics between the different couples, something you don’t get to see in individual therapy. Unsurprisingly there are moments of tension and full on arguments, but also plenty of moments of laughter and hope. It was powerful to listen to painful revelations about their past experiences that now contributed to the unhelpful patterns they are stuck in with their partner.

I found it interesting because it provoked me to think about my own patterns with friends and family and be curious about the experiences behind my responses.

Try watching the first episode, my guess would be, you’ll either love it or hate it.
